Kinzinger conducts energy tour

Congressman visits Aux Sable Liquid Products on Thursday

Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) made a stop at Aux Sable Liquid Products in Morris Thursday morning as part of a tour of energy resources in his Congressional district.

“The 16th District is one of the most energy diverse,” Kinzinger said. “We are a huge producer for the rest of the country. To get the opportunity to see it is great.”

The tour began with a presentation by Jeff White, vice president of U.S. Operations for the plant. White discussed the history, operations and performance of the natural gas liquid (NGL) plant and Kinzinger had an opportunity to ask questions.

Then, the congressman was given a driving tour of the plant.

Kinzinger said he had been to the plant before, but had never been given a tour.

“It’s a lot bigger than you’d ever imagine,” Kinzinger said. “I’m proud to have it here in our district.”

Kinzinger, who represents the 16th district, sits on the energy and commerce committee in the U.S. House of Representatives.

He is visiting sites around the district during the August recess from Congress.

During the Morris stop, which lasted about an hour, Kinzinger said energy is an important factor in improving the economy.

Aux Sable Liquid Products is an NGL extraction and fractionation facility. It employs about 250 people and is one of the largest such plants in North America. The company has operations in the U.S. and in Canada.

Since opening in 2000, Aux Sable has produced and sold more than 12 billion gallons of NGL products, according to White.

As demand has increased over the years, shale gas has become one of the most hotly debated energy resources. Proponents bill it as a strong source of domestic energy, while critics argue the extraction process poses environmental risks.
