Mary E. Palmer

JOLIET, Ill. — Mrs. Mary E. (Wicks) Palmer, 69, passed away with her family by her side at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013.

Mrs. Palmer is survived by two loving daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Adam) Burnett and Marguerite “Peggy” “Margo” Cox; four grandchildren Micaiah, Winter, David and Emily Burnett; a sister, Carolyn (David) Earls; and a brother, Charles (Susan) Wicks. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Born Aug. 21, 1943, in Chicago, she retired from Joliet School District 86 after 32 years as an elementary school teacher. Mary enjoyed playing her viola and was a member of the West Suburban Symphony Orchestra and the Four Encore String Quartet.

A member of the DAR and the Delta Kappa Gamma Teaching Sorority, she was a long-time member of St. Edward and Christ Episcopal Church in Joliet and a current member of St. Thomas Episcopal in Morris.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Edward and Christ Episcopal Church, 260 N. Midland Avenue, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug.17, with Fr. James Steele officiating.    Visitation will be held at the church Saturday, from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
