MINOOKA, Ill. — Five years ago, a church decided to have a garage sale to benefit those who live in the surrounding areas.
Then, the concept of giving away items members of the church could do without seemed real, seemed on target, thus creating “The Great Church Giveaway.”
“It’s a chance to live out the Gospel, which is the good news and the good work of Jesus, and it starts right in our neighborhoods,” said Arol McFadden, head pastor at Minooka Bible Church.
On Saturday, Aug. 17, Minooka Bible Church will once again open its doors to its annual free garage sale. Hundreds of people flock to the church to “shop” for items, which have been donated by church and community members.
Gently used items are up for grabs and range from clothing, toys, electronics, shoes, baby gear and furniture to tools, garden items, books, movies, kitchen gadgets/dishes, and housewares.
The Great Church Giveaway will run from 8 to 11 a.m., with the entrance at the main east-facing doors of the church. There will be assistance to vehicles with items as needed and shopping bags will be provided.
Donations for the giveaway will be accepted at the church from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight, Friday, Aug. 16. Please make sure all donated items are gently used.
