Manhattan man sentenced for fatal August 2012 crash

JOLIET — A Manhattan man who caused a fatal drunk driving crash in 2012 was sentenced to nine years in prison, the Will County State’s Attorney’s office announced last week.

Jason R. Rymut, 32, was intoxicated, talking on his cell phone, and traveling at 86 miles per hour when he crashed into the car of another Manhattan man that was idling at a stop sign Aug. 8, 2012.

Bryan Bulger, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bulger’s girlfriend survived with minor injuries and the driver of another vehicle, which was struck as a result of the initial impact, was uninjured.

Rymut was found to have a BAC of .121 after blood was drawn at Silver Cross Hospital.

On April 18, Rymut pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI and he was sentenced last week.

“Jason Rymut’s decision to drive drunk showed a callous disregard for the safety of other motorists, and his actions cost a young man his life,” State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow said. “He should spend his long years in prison contemplating the horrific results of his collision.”
