Muriel Winifred McCullough

MORRIS, Ill. – Mrs. Muriel Winifred (Clendenin) McCullough, 83, of Morris, Ill., passed away while surrounded by her family in her home Saturday.

Muriel was born on March 22, 1928, in Marion, Ill., the daughter of the late Matthew Roosevelt and Lilly Pearl (Sutton) Clendenin. She married Robert L. McCullough on Nov. 25, 1954, in Marion.

Muriel was educated at Southern Illinois University and, for many years, taught school in West Frankfort, Ill. She also worked at Jemco Engineering in Minooka, Ill., for several years.

She enjoyed rummage sales and traveling, and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years.

Muriel is survived by her two children, Robert A. (Laura) McCullough and Jeri (Scott) Turner, both of Morris; her grandchildren, Brandi (Mike) Shanon, David (Crystal) Turner, Matthew Robert McCullough, and Emily McCullough; three stepgrandchildren, Amanda (Orlando) Olvera, Zachary (Stephanie) Bartels, and Eli Bartels; along with seven step great-grandchildren one brother, Larry Joe (Carrol) Clendenin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Charlene Murphy and Dorothy Clendenin; and her husband, Robert;

On Aug. 15, 2012, Robert and Muriel were involved in a traffic crash on Illinois 47, north of Morris. Both were severely injured and Robert passed away later that day at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. There were no funeral services for Robert at that time and his wishes were to be cremated.

Muriel has suffered from many complications of her injuries for the past year and passed away Saturday evening. They will be laid to rest together on Wednesday.

Private funeral services for Muriel and Robert L McCullough will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home, 301 W. Washington St., Morris. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Larson of First Baptist Church in Morris.

It was Muriel’s wish that her and her husband’s lives be celebrated with a dinner gathering. Therefore, there will be a Celebration of Life dinner for Muriel and Robert L. McCullough at Maria’s Ristorante, 1591 Division St., Morris, at 3 p.m. Wednesday. All family and all friends are welcome.

Preferred memorials may be made in Muriel’s name to the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home, Morris.
