Mildred R. Miller

MORRIS, Ill. – Mrs. Ervin (Mildred R.) Miller, 94, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at the Walnut Grove Nursing Home in Morris, Ill.

Born on Feb. 23, 1919, she was the daughter of John and Elsie (Sutton) Henderson. Mildred graduated from Mazon High School with the Class of 1937.

On May 31, 1941, she married Ervin L. Miller in the garden of the UCC Church in Mazon, Ill. Their attendants were Louise and Eddie Esgar.

Surviving are two children, Jane (Forrest “Cork”) McCormack and James (Kathy) Miller, all of Mazon; three grandchildren, Sherry (Brett) Walker of Texas, Sandy (Mark) Gonsalves of Arizona and Scott Miller of Mazon; and great-grandchildren Jamie Miller, Jacob, Jonathon, Raegan and Madison Gonsalves, and Henry “Harry” Quekemeyer. Mildred is also survived by a sister-in-law, Virginia Henderson of Morris; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin, in 2002; a sister, Louise Esgar; and a brother, James Henderson.

She was a longtime Sunday school teacher in Verona and Mazon, and a Girl Scout leader in Verona.

Mildred enjoyed crocheting, fishing, shooting trap, playing softball, singing in the church choirs, playing cards and spending time with the grandchildren.

A celebration of Mildred’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home, 301 W. Washington St., Morris. The visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service begins. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Amenda.

Burial will be in the Ward Cemetery in Mazon Township.
