Durbin announce $50,000 investment in area

Cash to create jobs, boost development

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., recently announced the U.S. Commerce’s Department Economic Development Administration has awarded $50,000 in Economic Development District Planning to the area.

The funding is going to the North Central Illinois Council of Governments to create jobs and boost economic development in the region.

“Today’s funding will help the villages of Channahon and Minooka develop a strategic plan to maximize the benefit of ongoing infrastructure projects, promoting continued economic growth and local job creation,” Durbin said.

The North Central Illinois Council of Governments will use this investment to help the villages of Channahon and Minooka create a strategic plan to guide the development of the Interstate 80 interchange on Brisbin Road, and help maximize the economic benefit of the infrastructure project.

EDA is an agency within the U.S. Commerce Department and supports the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States. Its mission is to lead the federal economic development agenda by promoting innovation and competitiveness and preparing American regions for growth and success in the worldwide economy.
