Gardner man deploys to Western Pacific

Brooks heads out for eight-month mission

SAN DIEGO – United States Marine Cpl. Cale Brooks of Gardner embarked on the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit on Aug. 23 out of San Diego for an eight-month deployment in the Western Pacific.

Brooks is aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer LHD 4 in communications. The mission of the Marine Expeditionary Unit is to provide readiness to respond to the full spectrum of Marine Air-Ground Task Force capabilities from rapid-response humanitarian assistance to combat operations.

Brooks is the son of Darren and Pam Brooks of Gardner and the grandson of Bill and Barb Brooks and Jeanette Kelly.
