Barbara Jean Iverson

NEWARK, Ill. – Mrs. Barbara Jean (Zimmerman) Iverson, 80, of Newark, Ill., died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at the Sandwich Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Sandwich, Ill.

She was born Nov. 27, 1932, in Boston, the daughter of Edward and Serena Hejna (Mickelson) Zimmerman.

In 1952, Barbara was united in marriage to James L. Iverson. They spent all their married years farming in the Lisbon and Newark area.

Barbara received her education in the Grundy County schools, graduating from Morris High School in 1950. She worked at the Grundy County Farm Bureau, Morris Daily Herald and First Midwest Bank of Morris for 21 years. She was a member of the West Lisbon (Lutheran) Church during her married years.

Barbara leaves behind James, her husband of 61 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia (Iverson) and Robert Toftoy, and a grandson, Trenton Toftoy, all from Newark; an aunt, Margaret (Mickelson) Dell from Morris, Ill.; two nieces; a nephew; numerous cousins; and special friends Lynn and Yvonne Peterson from Newark.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Zimmerman and Serena Hejna; her stepfather, Edward Hejna; her father- and mother-in-law, Gehard and Clara Iverson; and a sister-in-law, Lois (Iverson) Mitchell.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the West Lisbon Church, 14381 Joliet Road, Newark. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at West Lisbon Church, with the Rev. Steven Lombardo II officiating. Interment will follow in West Lisbon Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the West Lisbon Church.
