COAL CITY, Ill. – Mr. Robert Gus Thomas, 81, of Coal City, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Morris Hospital.
He was born March 1, 1932, in Chicago, to the late Jerry and Sarah Thomas.
Robert was a member of Local 705 of the Teamsters Union, driving trucks for 35 years. He also owned and operated Thomas Builders for over 25 years.
He was a member or The Coal City United Methodist Church, enjoyed reading the newspaper, going on senior trips and was a Chicago baseball fan.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, June M. Thomas; four children, Robert Thomas of Joliet, Ill., Deborah (Tony) Tessone of Goose Lake Township in Grundy County, Ill., Terry Lynn Cain of Morris, Ill., and Jerry G. Thomas of Diamond, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings George Thomas, Delores Zapparato, Maryann Kozar, and James (Marie) Thomas; a sister-in-law, Mary Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene (Basil) Munday; a brother, CK (Sonny) Thomas; a brother-in-law, George Kozar; and a grandson, Jonathon “Porkchop” Neikirt.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 21 at The Ferrari Funeral Chapel on the corner of Spring Road and Ferrari Drive, in Coal City.
Thomas Logsdon will officiate. The visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral chapel.
