The Big Day of Serving is about two weeks away, but youth groups are still welcome to register.
On Oct. 12, teens from across the Midwest will join together for a day of restoring Kendall County. More than 400 volunteers participated in last year’s Big Day of Serving, and nearly 300 teens have already registered for this year’s event. They will paint, trim and wash Kendall County into a revitalized community in just one day.
Teens will participate in anything from repairing fences and installing bricks to planting shrubs and laying sod. Recipients of this volunteer work will include Kendall County townships, local schools, nursing homes, the Kendall County Food Pantry and the historical Lyon Farm.
Teens will be challenged spiritually, mentally and physically. They will work to change lives by restoring an entire neighborhood, one project at a time. This year’s participants will join more than 10,000 people in more than 35 cities across the country who will be part of the Big Day of Serving in 2013.
Youth group leaders can register their group at TheBigDayofServing.com. There is a fee of $40 a person. Participants receive lunch, a T-shirt, work supplies and entrance to an end-of-day celebration where youth groups will share stories and reflect on the rewards of serving others at a high-energy and worship-filled rally.
