Seneca, Morris finish second, third at Reed-Custer

The Morris varsity volleyball team finished third at the Reed-Custer Tournament on Saturday. At the same tournament, Seneca finished second, losing to Dee-Mack in the championship game.

Morris beat Tinley Park 25-21, 25-15; Christ Lutheran 21-9, 21-6; and St. Bede 21-15, 21-16 while splitting with Streator 19-21, 21-5; and losing to Seneca 25-22, 23-25, 15-11.

Against Tinley Park Abby Baker had eight kills, Taya Torkelson 22 assists and Alex Kjellesvik three digs. Against Christ Lutheran, Joanna Nowicki had nine kills, Cara Cummings 11 assists and Morgan Hussey five digs and against St. Bede Nowicki and Kaylin Korte had six kills apiece, Torkelson 17 assists and Hussey six digs.

In the split with Streator, Korte had seven kills, Torkelson 10 assists and Hussey eight digs and four aces.

In the loss to Seneca, Nowicki and Korte had eight kills, Torkelson 16 assists, Korte and Hussey had six digs each, and Austin Thompson and Baker a block apiece. In that same match, Taylor Vandenberg had 10 kills and Madison Wyss eight kills. Wyss also had eight points and three aces and 21 assists. Lexi Wilkinson had four blocks and Jessica Clubb eight digs.

In the championship match, Seneca lost to Dee- Mack 25-15, 25-17. Vandenberg had 10 assists and Kayla Haines 26 assists in the loss.

GSW at Watseka
Tournament

The Panthers went 2-2 on the day in Watseka to improve to 9-5 on the season.

GSW defeated Hoopeston 25-22, 25-14 and Danville 26-28, 25-15, 15-10 while losing to Peotone 25-19, 25-16 and Armstrong-Potomac 27-25, 25-22.

Breann Fisher made the All-Tournament team for the Panthers.

Minooka 3

The Indians bolted out to a 2-0 lead in Saturday’s home match with the Redskins – getting goals from Kyle Sparks and Mauro Medina. Morris did answer before the half, however, when Ricardo Del Toro scored

Minooka got its two-goal lead back in the second half on a goal by Griffith Messina but Morris rallied back with goals from Del Toro (Chava Villanueva assist) and Luke Rodriguez with seven minutes remaining.

Morris is now 10-0-3 on the season.

CROSS COUNTRY

Seneca, GSW at
Herscher Invite

The Lady Irish runners won the Herscher Invite on Saturday, finishing with a team score of 57. On the boys side, Seneca was fourth with 129. GSW ran individually and had no team score.

Minooka at Old Quary

In the girls race, Emily Ellis was the top finisher at sixth. Also for the Indians, Mary Crouch was eighth and Erin Wakefield ninth. In the other girls race, Kaylee Ratcliff won the event while Sydney McDaniel was second, Abbey Rivera sixth and Faith Herrera events.

In the boys race, Jordan Freese was third and Jared Bieker eighth.
