Generating Station Unit 1 completes refueling outage

Unit 1 returned to full power Thursday

BRACEVILLE – Operators returned Braidwood Generating Station Unit 1 to full power Thursday morning following the completion of the unit’s 17th refueling outage on Monday.

During the 21-day outage, Exelon employees and supplemental workers performed more than 13,000 activities, including equipment upgrades, safety inspections, tests and plant improvements. The unit began its scheduled refueling outage Sept. 9.

“We appreciate the efforts of our employees and the more than 1,150 supplemental workers that supported us,” said Braidwood Site Vice President Mark Kanavos.  “The work performed during the outage will help ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of Unit 1.”

Braidwood Unit 2 continued to operate during the Unit 1 refueling outage.

Braidwood Generating Station is approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The station’s two nuclear energy units can produce a total of more than 2,300 megawatts at full power – enough electricity to power more than 2 million typical homes.
