Morris soccer bounces back with win at Rochelle

The Morris soccer team bounced back from its first loss of the season by defeating Rochelle on Wednesday.

Also for the Redskins, the girls tennis team beat Plainfield South and the girls swimming team lost to the Barbs.

Ricardo Del Toro scored his fourth hat trick of the season – with all three goals assisted by Nick Borgstrom. Del Toro then added a fourth goal with a helper from Jorge Gutierrez.

“This was an intense week as we played Princeton, powerhouse DeKalb and Rochelle,” Morris coach Davis Valdivia said. “I have injured, exhausted players who are looking forward to a good night’s sleep with no games. I am proud of our 1-1-1 record this week.”

Morris is now 11-1-4 overall and 4-1-1 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East Conference.

At the JV level, Rochelle won 1-0.

Plainfield South 2

The Redskins got wins at all but the No. 3 singles and No. 4 doubles spots.

At No. 1 singles, Megan Davy won 6-2, 6-1 and at No. 2 singles, Emma Dingbaum won 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles action, Leah Lines and Monica Davy won 6-0, 6-0; Savannah Carter and Carly Williamson won 6-0, 6-0 and Mary Bush and Alyssa Larsen won 6-4, 6-0.

Minooka 4,

Plainfield South 3

The Indians swept the doubles action to get the Southwest Prairie Conference win.

Getting wins were the teams of Emily Guerrero and Kaila Jones (6-1, 7-5); Emily Craig and Ginny Niewuender (6-1, 6-3); Celine Sansires and Vaidehi Suryam (6-1, 6-2); and Maryot Bienal and Vivian MacQuee (7-5, 6-2).


DeKalb 125,

Morris 51

Alex Schauer, Kayla Lewis and Angel Dinelli swept the diving competition for the Redskins to highlight the meet against the Barbs.

Schauer scored a 147.5; Lewis a 129.05 and Dinelli a 92.80.

Jen Ashley was second for the locals in the 100 butterfly (1:17.75).

In JV action, DeKalb won 113-49 with Morris getting firsts from the 100 medley relay team, Miranda Starks in the 200 IM, Jenna Limbach in the 100 butterfly and Starks in the 100 breaststroke.



MVK 35,

Elwood 17

Alyssa Hauch had 10 points and six rebounds in the win.

Alex Drives added nine points and six rebounds.

In the seventh grade game, MVK won 23-11.

Alyssa Binion led the Mavericks with eight points while Rebekah Chapman added six points and six rebounds.

Reed-Custer 38,

MVK 33

Brittney Helms had 12 points and Hauch added nine points and 13 rebounds.

In the seventh grade game, MVK won 38-13 behind Madison Tondini’s 13 points. Kylie Winsor added nine points.


Ottawa Shepard 21,

Shabbona 4

Rori Griffin and Haley Aukland had two points each in the loss for Morris.

In extra-quarter action, Mary Chellino had two points and Ashlyn Williams one.
