Three severe accidents occurred on southbound Interstate 55 on Sunday and Monday.

On Monday, a five-vehicle accident occurred about 7 a.m. that included a semitrailer on I-55 south of U.S. 6 in the construction zone.

On Sunday afternoon, another accident near the same location occurred about 2 p.m. in Channahon, just south of Arsenal Road.

It also was reported as a multivehicle accident including a semitrailer; state police said a report on the accident was not available Monday.

Further north on I-55 about 8:30 a.m. Monday a semitrailer carrying garbage rolled over across three lanes on I-55 south near U.S. 30.

Traffic was rerouted to Illinois 126 and caused major traffic delays.

Debris on the roadway caused traffic to be shut down until about 10 a.m., according to the state police.

No one was injured in this accident, but no more information was available, according to the operation’s desk.
