MORRIS – The city of Morris’ water department is making it easier for residents to pay their bills.

Water and garbage bills may now be paid by credit card online, by phone or in person at the Morris Municipal Services Facility, 700 N. Division St.

To pay online visit or call at 815-942-0103. Those paying by phone may use an automated system or talk with a city employee. After hours they may still use the automated system.

“People have been using it every day, which is really nice,” said Carol Adair of the water department. “They can use Visa, MasterCard or Discover.”

The service took some time to become operational because of the software set up and then training employees, but it has been available now for a little more than a week.

Morris’ water and garbage bills are combined and are billed quarterly.

Online people may view their account information, account history and usage. To set up an account online residents need to input their name, address and account number.

There is no service fee to pay with a credit card, Adair said.

“[The city] chose not to pass that service fee along,” she said.

The city’s next step is to start an e-bill option for the water and garbage service.

“It’s something we are working on,” Adair said.
