CHANNAHON - Three were injured in a seven-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 south near Bluff Road Wednesday morning.

Traffic on Interstate 55 south from U.S. 6 to Bluff Road is now open after being shut down for about an hour, according to a press release from Illinois State Police District 5. The seven vehicle accident occurred at about 6:45 a.m.

Just north of Bluff Road the accident occurred including three semi trucks and four passenger vehicles.

"Traffic on I-55 southbound just north of Bluff Road came to a stop in the construction zone causing a chain reaction crash," according to the news release.

Three victims were transported to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

Helicopters rumored to be seen at the scene are believed to be television helicopters, Sgt. Martez Malone said earlier Wednesday.

The accident is under investigation. No names have been released by the state police.
