Jack Petty Sr.

Jack Petty Sr., 65, peacefully died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Morris Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born in Joliet, Ill., and was a lifelong Joliet-area resident and a Goose Lake resident for the past several years.

He was a graduate of the Illinois State Police Academy and a former District 5 State Police officer; he was employed by Prudential Life Insurance Agency of Naperville, Ill.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a purple martin enthusiast. He also was a member of the Goose Lake and South Wilmington Fireman’s Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Adeline Petty; and his in-laws, Miller and Beverly Vaught.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nanette R. (nee Vaught) Petty; two sons, Jack L. (Donna) Petty Jr., and Ron (fiancee, Lois Owen) Petty; five grandchildren, Ashley, Megan, Ryan, Alex and Adam Petty; three brothers, William (Fran), Greg (Sheila) and Patrick (Karen) Petty; four sisters, Joann (Chuck) Bartels, Pam (Jim) Tharge, Cheryl (Chas) Lombardi and Kimberly Osman; two sisters-in-law, Kathy (Jim) Tietz and Karen (Tom) Flynn; one brother-in-law, Miller (Denise) Vaught; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Jack L. Petty Sr. will be Friday, Oct. 25, at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Private interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

The visitation will be Friday following his funeral Mass at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington roads, Joliet, from 4 to 8 p.m.
