Morris volleyball beats Sycamore

Morris defeated Sycamore 17-25, 25-18, 25-16, on the road Thursday in Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference East varsity girls volleyball.

Eight kills and 12 digs from Kailyn Korte were highs for Morris (18-13-1, 5-4). Abby Baker had six kills, JoAnna Nowicki had three kills and nine digs, Austin Thompson had a kill, six aces and two digs, and Taya Torkelson had a kill, two aces and 19 assists.

Morris went 1-2 at the lower levels. The sophomores (4-21, 2-7) lost 25-21, 25-12. The freshman “A” team (20-8, 6-3) won 25-27, 25-16, 25-10. The freshman “B” team (9-4, 6-3) lost 28-26, 19-25, 15-12.

Minooka def. Romeoville,

25-19, 25-15

Ginger Perinar, who added five aces, and Emily Hise had five kills each Tuesday for Minooka (17-8, 10-3 Southwest Prairie). The Indians got four kills from Jessica Karalow, who added two blocks, and Brenna Perinar, and eight points and four digs from Jordan Airola.

GSW def. Tri-Point,

22-25, 25-17, 25-16

Gardner-South Wilmington (13-9, 5-6 River Valley) featured 12 kills, 1.5 blocks and four digs from Breann Fisher; nine kills, a block and three digs from Bryanna DeMoraes; eight kills, 2.5 blocks and eight digs from Lexi Posing; four kills each from Mariana Ferrari and Taylor Speed; and three aces, 13 digs and three assists from Sophie Barna on Tuesday.

The GSW sophomores won 25-16, 25-9 behind three kills from Emily Hopwood and a kill, seven aces and six assists from Sydney Perkins.

25-19, 25-20

Kristina Nichols had eight kills, Maddie Friestad had six aces and 10 digs, and Missy Friestad had 21 assists Monday for Newark (24-6).


MVK 27,

Wilmington 10

Mazon-Verona-Kinsman (7-4) featured 12 points from Heather Gonzalez and 7 from Britney Helms in the eighth-grade win Tuesday.

Lauren Dooley scored 14 points and Alyssa Binion 10 for the MVK seventh-graders (10-1) in a 34-16 win.

Ransom 21

Alex Draves scored 16 points Monday for MVK in the eighth-grade game.

Lauren Dooley had 12 points in a 35-3 MVK seventh-grade win.

Parkside 30,

Seneca 13

Four points each from Morgan Pifer and Lyda Robinson were high Monday for the Seneca eighth-graders (6-1).

The Seneca seventh-grade team (6-1) lost 24-17 despite 7 Faith Hacker points.


Saratoga 9,

Shabbona 6

Haley Aukland had 3 points and Alexis Smith had 2 points Tuesday for the “A” team from Shabbona.

Olivia Doss led the Braves with 4 points and Kearstin Arends added 2 points for Shabbona’s “B” team in a 6-6 tie.
