Kendall County sheriff: Current term will be last

Seven-term Kendall County Sheriff Richard Randall announced Thursday that his current term as sheriff will be his last.

Randall, who is the longest serving sheriff in Kendall County history, had previously left open the possibility of seeking an eighth term but has decided not to seek re-election, according to a news release from Randall.

“It was a difficult decision to make, and I left the door open for a long time,” Randall said in the news release. “I guess what made it hard is that I still enjoy the job, the employees of the sheriff’s office and the residents of Kendall County just as much as I did my first day in office.”

He was chief of police for the city of Yorkville before being elected as sheriff in 1986. He will have served 28 years as sheriff when his current term ends Nov. 30, 2014. Upon his retirement, Randall will have more than 46 years of law enforcement service.
