Virginia Maude Luttrell, 83, formerly of Beardstown, Ill., and Rushville, Ill., died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
She was born April 10, 1930, in Beardstown, the daughter of Asa and Lydia Sadoff Lindley Sr.
Surviving is her brother, Thomas (wife Helen) Lindley of Bella Vista, Ark.; several nieces and nephews; her family by choice, Sally and Frank Barber of Morris, Ill.; her Godchildren, Lori Barber and Greg Barber; and her special friend, Loawana Leach of Jacksonville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Asa Jr. and Harold Lindley; and one sister, Laura Brockman.
Virginia graduated from Beardstown High School in the Class of 1948, served as a “Wave” in the U.S. Navy, was employed at a factory in Chicago for many years, and retired after 20 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service in Jacksonville. She was of the Methodist faith and was attending Wesley United Methodist Church in rural Jacksonville. Virginia was a history buff and was always inquisitive – wanting to learn new things. She enjoyed fishing, boating, bird watching (especially the hummingbirds and bluebirds in her yard), and visiting with her family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Sager Funeral Home, with burial in Beardstown City Cemetery. Family will meet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Beardstown Rescue Squad.
