Ginger R. Carr, 91, of Morris, Ill., passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.
Born Sept. 16, 1922, in Morris, Ginger was a daughter of the late Reas and Sadie Treftz-DeAtley. She was raised in Morris and went to work as a welder in the shipyards in California during World War II. After returning to Morris, Ginger also welded at the Seneca shipyards. Most recently she owned Ginger’s Tap in Morris, which she operated until her retirement. It was the care that Ginger herself received from the Shriners Childrens Hospital as a child that brought about her and her late husband’s involvement with the Medinah Shriners. She was also a past member of the Morris VFW Auxiliary.
Ginger enjoyed crocheting and loved to travel. She took great pleasure in driving, and could be found driving about town as recently as three weeks ago. Ginger will be remembered as a truly thoughtful person, who had a keen memory. She was dedicated to her close-knit family, and cherished her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and their spouses and her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Barb (Ron) Rath of Morris; granddaughter, Danielle (Pete) Helland of St. Charles, Ill.; grandson, Steven (Erica) Rath of Stavanger, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Hailey; her niece and namesake, Ginger (Russ) Ferguson of Morris; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews; and many special friends.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Reas and Sadie DeAtley; husband, John Carr, whom she married Aug. 28, 1963; two sisters, Marge Wise and Kate Lee; and two brothers, Richard DeAtley and Donald DeAtley.
