MORRIS – On Nov. 22, members of New Community Christian Church helped We Care buy more than 7,974 pounds of food from Northern Illinois Food Bank and provided volunteers to unload the truck and stock the shelves.
“We consider it a privilege to be able to partner with We Care to serve some of the needs in our county,” Kevin Yandell, lead reverend at New Community Christian Church, said in a news release.
“New Community Christian Church provided us with double the amount of funds we normally receive for a Fill the Pantry so that we could really get stocked up for our holiday food needs,” We Care’s Denise Gaska said in the news release. “And, due to the recent cuts in food stamp allocations, we have seen a 25 percent increase in use of our food pantry.”
We Care receives a monthly delivery of food for its pantry from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.
During the month since the last Fill the Pantry, We Care has helped feed 289 families from its food pantry.
Upcoming Fill the Pantry sponsors include Morris Hospital, Mike and Norma Miller and LyondellBassell.
