Two Morris students released from hospital after taking prescription pills

MORRIS – Two students at Morris Community High School who were taken Thursday afternoon to Morris Hospital after taking prescription pills that were not prescribed to them have been released from the health care facility.

Superintendent Pat Halloran said Thursday students took the medication at school, but did not know the details of how the incident was reported. Dispatchers reported to emergency responders that a student was feeling ill after taking too many pills, according to traffic heard over a police scanner Thursday..

It was the decision of the school nurse and administration to have the students evaluated at Morris Hospital. The students were observed and then released, according to a news release sent Friday by the school.

The students involved were disciplined within the guidelines of the Drug, Alcohol and Related Offenses section, found on page 27 of the student handbook, according to the news release.

The MCHS administration and school resource officer are working with the Morris Police Department to investigate this matter.
