Coroner's office to put death information online

MORRIS – The Grundy County Coroner’s Office now offers information online regarding countywide deaths.

“We get questions and phone calls frequently wondering if ‘so and so’ has passed or they have heard or seen something and are wondering where [the deceased] are now,” coroner John Callahan said. “This is just another resource for people to rely on.”

To get to the coroner’s website, visit www.grundyco.org, select the “department” tab and click on “coroner.” Then on the right side, click on “countywide deaths.”

On this page the deceased person’s name and the funeral home he or she was released to will be listed, Callahan said. The listing will indicate if a death still is under investigation or if there is no funeral home involved yet.

In addition, deaths where a news brief is released, such as traffic fatalities, will be available on the coroner’s page under “news briefs.”

All of this information will be updated daily.

“Privacy, respect and compassion still remain my top priority and the integrity of all investigations,” Callahan said.

The information is being made available in order to be transparent, he said. There will be no more information or details of an investigation released than the office would normally release to the public.

Progress reports on an investigation, such as results of toxicology, histology and other tests, will not be released onto the website.
