DIAMOND – On Dec. 10, four students from Coal City School District 1 accompanied Superintendent Kent Bugg to the Village of Diamond Board meeting.
The students presented $12,288 in cash and gift cards that was collected by the students, staff, administration, vendors and even some neighboring school districts, according to a news release from the village.
“Since the tragic tornado, the thoughts of everyone in our school district have been with the impacted families and businesses,” sophomore Abby Olsen said, reading from a statement on behalf of all five of the District 1 schools. “Our hope is that the money we have collected will go directly to those in need.”
Mayor Terry Kernc accepted the donation on behalf of the Diamond Village Board.
