Prep roundup: Newark defeats Aurora Christian at Plano Christmas Classic

Newark was defeated 62-53 by a team won against earlier this season, Aurora Christian on Friday at the 51st annual Plano Christmas Classic.

Matt Eike’s 18 points were enough to lead Newark, which is seeded 13th in the tournament. Will Clausel had 14 points and four assists, and Jack Clausel added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Ottawa 61,

Seneca 43

Also Friday at Plano, the eighth-seeded Fighting Irish were led by Alex Bott’s 12 points.

Newark and Seneca will now play today at 3:30 p.m. at Plano. The winner will advance to the fifth-place game.

Dwight 74,

Reed-Custer 66

At the Marseilles Holiday Tournament on Friday, Triston Dircks scored 25 points and had seven rebounds and Jace Kennedy had 12 points for Dwight (6-5), which will play Kewanee in the semifinals today at 6:30 p.m.

Zach Zoltani scored 16 points for Reed-Custer, which will face Flanagan-Cornell at 3:30 p.m. today.

GSW 43,

Also at the Marseilles Holiday Tournament, Gardner-South Wilmington was led in consolation-bracket play by Jeremy Kunz.

It will face Woodland at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

At the St. Bede Lady Bruins Christmas Classic on Friday, the Lady Irish (12-3) won behind 18 points and nine rebounds from Jacey Lamboley, 10 points from Danielle Hauch and nine points from Mallory Misener.

“Had some good looks today. Jacey stepped up and hit some shots,” Seneca coach Barb Beck said.


Morris at Sterling

Now 7-3, Morris defeated Alleman, 53-18, and Morton, 57-12, and lost, 54-21, to Sterling on Friday. For Morris, Kenny Baldridge (132/138), A.J. Vota (138/145), Emmet Chouinard (152/160),Trevor Allbert (160/170) and Dalton Ness (220) were 3-0, Tony Menozi (106), Andrew Smith (113), Dominic Byerly (126) and Andrew Faught (285) were 2-1 and Ryan Kowalczyk (170/182) added a win.
