Morris hospital to expand services to Yorkville

YORKVILLE – Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is expanding its services with a presence in nearby Yorkville, and soon will accelerate its plans to build in Coal City.

Morris Hospital has purchased a building in Yorkville that previously was a shopping center. After it is renovated, it will provide immediate care services, primary care, obstetrics/gynecology and cardiology physician offices, as well as laboratory, diagnostic imaging and occupational medicine services.

The plan is to be open at the end of March, Mark Steadham, president and CEO of Morris Hospital, said of the Yorkville facility.

"We will be the only health care providers south of the [Fox] river and there is a large population south of the river – about 22,000," he said.

The center, which is almost 12,000 square feet, is just south of the intersection of Route 47 and Route 71 in Stagecoach Crossing.

Yorkville has been on the hospital's radar for about eight years, Steadham said, even before it established its Ridge Road Campus in Channahon. But the Minooka and Channahon area was its first priority.

Once completed, Steadham said Morris Hospital will have a $3.5 million capital investment in Yorkville and will employ 25 to 30 people there, not including the physicians.

The hospital already has recruited two new physicians for the immediate care services, Steadham said, and are in the process of getting a primary care physician and an OB-GYN. At the first of the year another cardiologist will join the staff that will work at multiple locations.

"We are very excited and very supportive and very happy to see Morris Hospital make a commitment to Yorkville and providing these needed services to our town, particularly to the residents and businesses south of the river," said Lynn Dubajic, executive director of the Yorkville Economic Development Corp.
Once Yorkville is complete, focus will move to constructing a new facility in Coal City.

"In Coal City we have five very loyal physicians and we have been expanding health care over there for a couple of years now," Steadham said. "We are very close to putting together an offer in Coal City."
Steadham could not specify a timeline for the Coal City location, but said the village always has been a priority to Morris Hospital. It is the second largest community in Morris Hospital's service area.
