Seneca wrestlers pick up double dual win

In area wrestling action Wednesday night the Seneca Fighting Irish won a pair of nonconference matches against Mooseheart (51-6) and St. Bede (39-33).

Winners for the Irish against Mooseheart included: Tyler Draine at 113 pounds (fall 4:58); Sage Friese at 132 (fall 1:17); Kyle Sigmon at 138 (forfeit); Cole Klicker at 145 (17-2); Bryce Coyle at 152 (14-2); Zach Russell at 160 (fall 5:30); Dayton Coyle at 170 (fall 45 seconds); Tommy Lovett at 182 (fall 4:20) and Jakub Goslin at 195 (fall 2:20).

Winners for the Irish against St. Bede included: Draine at 113 pounds (fall 2:49); Friese at 132 (fall 58 seconds); Bryce Coyle at 152 (3-2); Russell at 160 (fall 2:40); Dayton Coyle at 170 (fall 1:06); Lovett at 182 (fall 47 seconds) and Goslin at 195 (fall 3:14).

Reed-Custer 83,

Beecher 62

Travis Schoonover had 19 points, five assists and four steals in the win for R-C. Brent Headrick and Logan Zavala added 11 points and Tyler Foote had 10.

Foote also added 10 points to complete the double-double.

In the frosh-soph game, R-C won 71-55 with Justin Wetzel leading the way with 14 points.



Saratoga 42,

Lockport Kelvin Grove 28

Tyler Spiezio had 24 points in the win while Cortez James added seven points and Jett Walker had five.

In the seventh-grade contest, Saratoga won, 26-19, with Jacob Overbeck leading the Hawks with 20 points.

Saratoga 41,

Joliet Hufford 38

Spiezio had 23 points and Brennan Goff added 11 in the win.

In the seventh-grade contest, Saratoga beat Hufford 35-34 with Overbeck scoring 16 points and Patrick McCabe adding 10.


Shabbona def. ICS,

25-20, 25-23

Calleen Soper had five points (four aces) and three kills for the Braves while Ashley Evola added seven points (four aces) and an assist. Anna Wasko also had six points.

MVK def. Streator Woodland,

25-11, 25-19

Alexa Novy had 13 service points in the win by the Mavericks and Alyssa Hauch added seven points and two kills.

In the seventh-grade match, MVK won, 25-13, 25-23 with Lauren Dooley getting 11 service points and Alyssa Binion added seven points and one kill.

Coal City def. Reed-Custer,

25-18, 25-12

Sadey Brewer led Coal City with nine points while Bridget Kauzlaric added seven assists and Sam Olsen had four kills.


Marquette def. Shabbona,

25-19, 20-25, 15-10

Ashlyn Williams led the Braves with 10 points while Olivia Doss and Sophia Shaw had three each.

In the “B” match, Morris won, 25-23, 26-24, with Lily Goode scoring eight service points. Tera McCormick had seven points and Baylee Newman had six.

ICS def. Shabbona,

25-27, 20-16, 15-8

Williams had seven service points, Shawnee Timm added four and Hannah Hitchcock three for the Braves.

In the ‘B’ match Shabbona won 25-13, 25-19 with Lily Goode getting nine service points.
