MORRIS – On Jan. 30 the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Grundy County will officially get underway as event volunteers and participants gather at Eagle’s Hall for a kickoff rally to launch fundraising efforts for the year.
Although the Relay For Life of Grundy County is more than four months away, now is the time to get involved.
Residents are invited to attend the kickoff celebration to learn more about the upcoming event and how they can become part of an overnight event that will benefit cancer patients.
The kickoff rally is a community potluck. Participants will gather from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Eagle’s Hall is at 120 Liberty Street in Morris. It will be an open house style event, so interested parties can drop by anytime.
Relay For Life participants and visitors have a chance to celebrate the victory of local cancer survivors during the survivors lap; remember those who are fighting cancer or those who have lost their battle to the disease during the luminaria ceremony; and participate in the fight back ceremony, which gives everyone a chance to proclaim his or her own way of taking action against the disease.
Donations can be made to this local Relay For Life event by visiting RelayForLife.org/grundyil. Community members also can start or join a team by following the links to their local Relay event.
The 2014 Relay For Life of Grundy County will be May 31 at Morris Community High School beginning at 2 p.m.
