Extra sheriff's deputies on patrol after stranger incident Tuesday

BRACEVILLE – Grundy County sheriff’s deputies are on extra patrol in Braceville this week because of a report of a stranger offering two little girls a ride to school Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Kevin Callahan said Wednesday about 8 a.m. a person in a dirty black van asked two 10-year-old girls, who were walking to Braceville Elementary School, if they wanted a ride to school. The girls ran home and told an adult relative who notified the school. The school principal then called the sheriff’s department.

The girls were walking on Division Street when the incident occurred.

The sheriff’s department tried to find the van, but was unable to Tuesday. On patrol Wednesday deputies also found nothing suspicious and nothing was reported, Callahan said.

“Deputies will still be there in the mornings the rest of this week,” he said. “We’re hoping we will see the van, stop them and identify the person.”
