MORRIS – Because of issues with the sprinkler system, the Grundy County Administration Building was closed early Friday.

The building is expected to be reopened Monday, said Grundy County Board Chairman Ron Severson.

Because of an issue with the heat on the back side of the building where the morgue is located, the sprinkler system broke and therefore had to be shut down in the entire building, Severson said.

Because of safety issues, a building cannot be occupied if its sprinkler system is no operational, he said, so employees were sent home early. Maintenance crews were working on the system Friday afternoon and Severson hoped it would be fixed by today.

“The extreme wind and temperatures wears on buildings,” he said.
