Local students make dean's lists around the country

Local MacMurray students named to dean’s list

JACKSONVILLE – The following local students were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester 2013 at MacMurray College in Jacksonville. To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have a 3.5 grade-point average for the term and be a full-time student with 12 hours or more of credit.

Chance Bowen of Braidwood, a freshman in criminal justice made the Dean’s List. He is the son of Becky and Jeff Bowen of Braidwood.

Leslie J. Sutton of Verona, also made the list. She is a senior majoring in educational studies: deaf and hard of hearing education. She is the daughter of George and Lucille Sutton of Verona. 

Area student receives honors from Greenville College  

Greenville – Morris resident Morganne Friestad made the dean’s list at Greenville College in the fall semester. Friestad is majoring in elementary education. To qualify for the dean’s list, freshmen are required to maintain a 3.5 grade point average. Sophomores, juniors and seniors must have a 3.7 GPA. Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school with more than 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students.

Local students named to Aurora University dean’s list

AURORA – Aurora University congratulates the more than 900 undergraduate students who earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2013 semester. Locally, Jennifer Waters of Morris, Craig Warner of Diamond and Alicia Runyon of Dwight made the list.

The Dean’s List recognizes students who have earned a 3.6 GPA or higher. Students recognized with high honors have earned a perfect 4.0.

Joel McVey Makes Butler University’s fall dean’s list

INDIANAPOLIS – Joel McVey, an Actuarial Science major and a resident of Morris, is on Butler University’s dean’s list for the fall semester of the 2013-14 academic year. Degree-seeking undergraduate students at Butler who carry at least 12 academic hours in a given semester are eligible for the dean’s list. Students on the list are in the top 20 percent of their college, as determined by the semester grade point average of all eligible students in each college.

Concordia University Wis. releases fall dean’s list

Alexandra Menozi of Morris made Concordia University Wisconsin’s fall dean’s list for the first semester of 2013-14 academic year. To be eligible for the honor, students must achieve a minimum 3.50 GPA. Founded in 1881, Concordia University Wisconsin, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive, Mequon, offers 49 undergraduate majors and is affiliated with The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

Drake University dean’s list

DES MOINES, IA – Samantha Welch of Morris was named to the Drake University dean’s list for the Fall 2013 semester. Students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or above to earn this honor. Drake is a private, independent university in Des Moines, Iowa, with an enrollment of approximately 3,400 full-time undergraduate students and 1,900 graduate students from 49 states and 50 countries.

NIU dean’s list

DEKALB – Northern Illinois University announced its fall 2013 dean’s list. The following local residents have been recognized as a dean’s list students at Northern Illinois University: Sydney Christensen of Morris. Christensen is a student in the College of Business; Bryanna Phelan of Coal City. Phelan is a student in the College of Education; Lacey Kueteman of Seneca. Kueteman is a student in the College of Education; Cassie Clemmons of Seneca. Clemmons is a student in the College of Health & Human Sciences; Kendra Rasmussen of Seneca. Rasmussen is a student in the College of Health & Human Sciences; and Haley Orr of Morris. Orr is a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The dean’s list is compiled by NIU’s academic colleges according to varying criteria. Students must meet a minimum semester grade point average of 3.75.

Linn State Technical College announces 2013 fall honor roll and dean’s list

Derek Cheshareck and Mitchell Redford, both of Morris, made the Linn State Technical College honor roll in the 2013 fall semester. Vincent Rodriguez of Morris made the school’s dean’s list.

To be placed on the honor roll, a full-time student must earn a semester grade point average between 3.0 and 3.499. To be placed on the dean’s list, a full-time student must earn a semester grade point average between 3.5 and 4.0. Linn State Technical College is Missouri’s only public two-year technical college with a statewide mission to prepare students for profitable employment and a life of learning.

St. Ambrose University dean’s list

The following full-time students, who achieved a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have been named to the St. Ambrose University dean’s list for the fall 2013 term: Maxwell Brozovich of Minooka; Eric Day, Brenna Feeney and Kevin Wendling all of Morris; and Jessica Frye, April Hovious, Erin Hovious and Tyler Hovious, all of Marseilles.

Founded in 1882 by the Diocese of Davenport, St. Ambrose is a private, coeducational, comprehensive university with a firm grounding in the liberal arts.

Eastern Illinois University’s dean’s list

CHARLESTON – Six local students have been named to Eastern Illinois University’s fall 2013 deans’ list: Ashley Lamb of Morris, Corinne Benson of Coal City, Eric Wagner of Morris, Heather Lamb of Morris, Paige Cordrey of Morris, and Tyler Shanks of Seneca.

The deans’ list at EIU recognizes undergraduates with a declared major whose academic performance has been excellent. Students who achieve a GPA of 3.80 to 4.00 while completing a minimum of 12 graded semester hours, excluding credit/no credit grades, in a fall or spring semester will be named to the deans’ list.

Two locals graduate from NIU

DEKALB – Josh Starner and Jennifer Zelko, both of Morris, recently graduated from Northern Illinois University. Starner graduated with a B.S. degree from the College of Education. Zelko graduated with a M.S.Ed. degree from the College of Education. NIU announced the awarding of graduate and undergraduate degrees at the conclusion of its fall semester, Dec. 14 and Dec. 15, respectively. Chartered in 1895, NIU is a comprehensive teaching and research institution with a diverse and international student body of about 21,000.

EIU announces more than 820 fall 2013 graduates

CHARLESTON – Degrees have now officially been awarded to more than 820 fall 2013 graduates at Eastern Illinois University. Included in that number are seven local students.

Alije Fejzoski of Morris, Matthew Smith of Morris, Melissa Muser of Coal City, Molly Connon of Morris, Stefani Noethe of Morris, Teala Irons of Morris and Tyler Shanks of Seneca all graduated.
