CREST HILL – The Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools Office, in conjunction with the University of St. Francis, is hosting a Fine Arts Workshop at the University of St. Francis College of Arts & Sciences on Saturday for 76 students from 37 Diocese of Joliet elementary schools.
“This event demonstrates the importance of the Arts in our Catholic schools as we strive to provide our students with every opportunity to discover their talents,” said Rev. John Belmonte, S.J., Ph.D., Diocesan superintendent of the Catholic schools, in a news release.
The elementary students, ranging from fifth to eighth grade, were selected by their school art teacher to attend the workshop based on their aptitude for the arts.
The students will participate in four one-hour workshops taught by professors and current students enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences.
The workshops will be on screen printing, painting, digital graphic design and photography. The event will culminate with Mass at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Joliet.
“We are pleased to partner with the Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools Office to celebrate the arts with elementary students and to share with them how the arts can be part of their future,” Robert Kase, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of St. Francis, said in the release.
