KANKAKEE – Healthgrades announced last month that Riverside Medical Center has received the 2014 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence™.
The distinction makes Riverside one of the top five percent of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, according to a news release from Riverside.
Not all hospitals eligible for the distinction meet the final requirements. For example, in the Chicago region, there were 12 hospitals out of 54 eligible hospitals recognized as Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence award recipients, placing them among top five percent of hospitals nationwide. Riverside Medical Center is among the hospitals in the Chicago region with some of the best quality care across at least 21 of 30 common inpatient conditions and procedures evaluated by Healthgrades.
“Quality care has been Riverside’s focus since we opened our doors 50 years ago,” said Phil Kambic, President and CEO, in the release. “It is because of the doctors’, nurses’ and hospital staff’s dedication to excellence that this award is made possible for Riverside.”
Earlier this year, Healthgrades named Riverside One of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery and Stroke Care. The hospital also has five-star ratings in Cardiac, Orthopedic, Neurosciences, Pulmonary, Gastrointestinal and Critical Care services.
“Riverside’s commitment to the community has been the driving force behind everything from our state-of-the-art technology to our Magnet recognition for nursing excellence,” said Dave Duda, Riverside Senior Vice President and Chief Operating and Nursing Officer, in the release.
From 2010 through 2012, Healthgrades Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence as a group had an overall 26.4 percent lower risk adjusted mortality rate across 19 procedures and conditions where in-hospital mortality was the clinical outcome, compared to all other hospitals. During this same period, if all other hospitals performed at the level of Distinguished Hospitals for Clinical Excellence across these 19 procedures and conditions, 156,036 lives could potentially have been saved.
