MINOOKA – A fundraiser is being held for the Rice family in Minooka, who in just over a year have lost both their mother and father.

Steve Rice of Minooka passed away Feb. 1 after battling esophageal cancer. He leaves behind two children, Amy, 12, and Tom, 19. Just over a year ago, Steve’s wife Terry, the children’s mother, passed away from ovarian cancer.

Friends of the family are organizing a fundraiser from 5 to 10 p.m. March 8 at the Morris Eagle’s Club, 120 Liberty St. in Morris. Funds raised will benefit the family.

Family friend and organizer, Carmen Beck, said the proceeds will help Amy and Tom at this particularly difficult time in their lives. She said the event got organized through the help of several family members, neighbors, friends and students from Minooka who decided to pitch in to assist the family.

A fund has been established at Harris Banks under the title Steve Rice Fundraiser. Persons wishing to donate can do so at any Harris Branch.

Tickets to the event can be purchased at the door. The charge is $20 for adults and $10 for children. Food and pop will be provided. There will be a silent auction and  50/50 raffles, as well.
