JOLIET – The Joliet Slammers are happy to announce the return of Mark Vasko as Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the upcoming season. Vasko was the radio voice for the team’s 2011 championship season and prior to that was part of the broadcast team for the first four seasons of JackHammers’ baseball at Silver Cross Field.

“Mark brings a great knowledge of professional baseball in Joliet to the radio booth and we are thrilled to have him back with the ballclub” said team General Manager Chris Franklin. “His passion for area sports will be a great asset to the Slammers and it only helps strengthen our relationship with everyone involved at WJOL.”

Vasko has 12 years of professional baseball broadcast experience, having also spent time with the Kane County Cougars and Windy City Thunderbolts (then the Cook County Cheetahs). He was also the baseball beat reporter for WBBM newsradio 780 in the late 1990s and spent five years with WSCR the Score. Mark also has national radio experience with both Sporting News Radio and most recently Yahoo Sports Radio.

“I couldn’t be happier to be coming back to the Slammers” said Vasko. “Silver Cross Field is like home to me and I can’t wait to get the season started. I was there for the very first Opening Day in Joliet and I will be just as excited for this one.”

All 96 games will once again be broadcast on 1340 WJOL and in Joliet.  Vasko has also been the voice of Lewis University basketball on WJOL for 11 seasons.

The Slammers will open the 2014 campaign at home against the Southern Illinois Miners at Silver Cross Field at 7 p.m. May 16. There will be a postgame Fireworks display.

The Joliet Slammers, presented by ATI Physical Therapy, play at Silver Cross Field in downtown Joliet and are members of the professional, independent Frontier League. The Frontier League is a 14-team league entering its 22nd season of play in 2014. Full, partial, and group tickets are available by calling the Slammers office at (815) 722-BATS or by visiting
