MORRIS – On March 28, the friends and family of Robyn White donated $750 to help We Care of Grundy County purchase 4,325 pounds of food from Northern Illinois Food Bank and provided volunteers to unload the truck and stock the shelves.
“My family and I have decided to honor my late wife, Robyn’s memory by helping those in need, because it was a passion for her to take care of those in our community who needed help of any kind. We’d like to thank all of our friends and family who helped.” said Randy White, in a news release.
During the month since the last Fill the Pantry, We Care has helped 240 families from its food pantry. We Care receives a monthly delivery of food for its pantry from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. NIFB is able to provide food to pantries at prices that are unattainable in grocery stores, such as 18 ounce boxes of cereal for 20 cents each, 16 ounce boxes of instant mashed potatoes for 23 cents each, and 15 ounce cans of peas for 24 cents each.
In addition to the food that We Care purchases with the donations, the food pantry also receives food that is provided for free as part of the Emergency Food Program. The EFP provided blueberries, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, beef stew, whole chickens, whole grain spaghetti pasta, chicken leg quarters and young turkeys. Upcoming Fill the Pantry sponsors include LyondellBassell, Morris Building & Loan, Roberty Russo and Boggs & Fillenworth, and Brandt Builders and United Meters Inc.
