MORRIS – An accident in the southbound lanes of the Illinois River bridge in Morris shut down traffic for about a half hour Monday afternoon.
About 4:30 p.m. a driver blacked out while driving and swiped another vehicle, said Morris Patrolman Curt Kneller. The first vehicle then crossed the median and hit another car head-on as it went northbound in the southbound lane on the bridge.
Kneller said this was all the information he could provide as of press time. The three-vehicle accident stopped traffic and two people were taken to Morris Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, said Chief Tracey Steffes of the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District. One other person refused treatment on scene. Morris Police shut down southbound traffic on the bridge for about 20 to 30 minutes, he said. Route 47 through Morris was backed up with traffic during the incident.
