Handful of residents in a Channahon neighborhood under boil order

CHANNAHON – A boil order for a Channahon neighborhood was in effect Monday and will continue Tuesday until results from the water quality lab show all is clear, possibly as early as Wednesday morning.

On Friday, according to Channahon Public Works Director Ed Dolezal, a small silver dollar-sized leak was discovered in a water main that serves Rock Ridge Court. The main was shut down, the broken section replaced and the line flushed Monday, and crews planned to take a sample of water from a nearby spigot in for analysis Tuesday morning.

Cultures take 24 hours, Dolezal said, so the earliest all-clear notice would be Wednesday.  Only nine or ten homes in the cul-de-sac are affected by the boil order, and no businesses. Reverse 911 was not used to inform residents of the issue, as with the small populace involved village staff were able to personally visit each home.

Those affected may call Channahon’s instant notification number at 815-467-8388 to learn when the water is safe to drink, wash dishes or brush teeth without boiling.
