Roundup: Foley, GSW softball pound Illinois Lutheran

CRETE – You can excuse the members of Illinois Lutheran’s softball team if they never want to see Gardner-South Wilmington’s Emily Foley ever again.

Foley went 5 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and seven RBIs, as the Panthers crushed Illinois Lutheran, 20-1 in five innings on Wednesday. To top it off, Foley was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and striking out eight in five innings.

Kylie King chipped in with four hits and three runs for the Panthers (14-5, 7-2) in the River Valley Conference win. Lexi Posing (double, 2 RBIs), Sophie Barna (RBI) and Paige Lardi (RBI) all had two hits.

“Obviously the offense came to play today,” GSW coach Jon Posing said. “We got hits from nine different players. Emily pitched another excellent game, and 5 for 5 at the plate wasn’t bad, either. It makes it very easy for the coach to call pitches when the offense puts up crooked numbers.”

Westmont 10, Coal CIty 9: The Coalers (11-12, 6-6) led, 9-1, entering the sixth, but Interstate Eight rival Westmont exploded for nine runs, highlighted by a bases-loaded triple and a two-run homer. D.J. Budde had three hiits, including two doubles to lead the offense, while Lane Cowherd and Rick Collins each had two hits.

Wilmington 3, Dwight 1: Wilmington’s Al Ziomie threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and four walks. The lone run for Dwight (7-17, 0-12 Interstate Eight) came when Karsen Kopmann scored on a wild pitch. Dwight’s Peter Hansen allowed just four hits and two walks.

Morris sophomores 1, Rochelle 0: Colton Akre threw five scoreless innings to pick up the win for the Redskins. Matt Shaw pitched the final two innings to finish the shutout. Shane McTague and Jordan Miracle turned a double play in the first to get the Redskins out of an early jam. Matt Walker went 1 for 3 and drove home Shane McTague for the game’s lone run. Luke Bardash also went 1 for 3.

Bradley-Bourbonnais 4, Morris 1: Maddy Feeney was 2 for 3 for the Redskins (17-4), while Emily Moore, Abby Burns (RBI), and Leah Lines each added a hit. Laurel Harper threw all six innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs.

Yorkville 115, Morris 41: Point earners for Morris in the meet were Leona Burton in the long jump (1st, 16-7), the 100 (1st, 12.6) and the 200 (1st, 26.9), Haleigh Knapp in the high jump (1st, 5-4), the 4x100 relay team of Katie Erickson, Becca McKee, Jessica Webber and Burton (1st, 52.22), McKee in the long jump (2nd, 15-101⁄2), 100 (2nd, 12.8) and the triple jump (3rd, 32-81⁄2), Erickson in the 400 (2nd, 1:06.8), Maddie Davy in the 300 hurdles (2nd, 57.6), Sabrina Baftiri in the 400 (3rd, 1:09.27), Webber in the 100 (3rd, 13.2) and Halley Posey in the 3,200 (3rd, 16:00).

Lisle 1, Coal City 0: Britta Spelde made 19 saves for Coal City.
