Grundy County Sheriff Kevin Callahan’s office will be kicking off summer by hosting several Bicycle Safety Rodeo events and an open house that will feature both a car seat safety check and Bicycle Safety Rodeo on May 31 at the sheriff’s office.
In coordination with National Bicycle Safety month, sheriff’s deputies will be hosting Bicycle Safety Rodeos for children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The event will discuss rules of the road, bicycle safety information, and will offer bicycle inspections, along with a bicycle safety performance course. The top finishers on the course will receive an award. In addition, all children who attend one of the rodeos will be entered into a drawing to serve as “Sheriff for the Day.”
The events will be held:
• 9 to 11 a.m. May 31 at Braceville Elementary School.
• 12 to 3 p.m. May 31 at the Sheriff’s Office, 111 E. Illinois Ave., Morris.
• June 2 for students at South Wilmington Grade School.
Sheriff Callahan invites all parents, grandparents, and caregivers to stop by the sheriff’soffice for an open house during the May 31 event at his office, which will include a car seat safety check event and bicycle safety rodeo for children.
“We want to help you do all you can to best protect your children. I’m urging all parents and caregivers to have your seat checked by a certified Child Passenger Safety technician. Many injuries sustained by children, as the result of a motor vehicle crash, could have been prevented if the child was properly secured in the right fitting car seat, “ Callahan said in the release.
