Historical society seeking items for preservation

MORRIS – Many people do not know the Grundy County Historical Society exists.

Most people seem to find them by driving by We Care of Grundy County or seeing the museum sign on the building at 510 W. Illinois St. in Morris, according to a news release from the museum.

Once someone comes to the museum they are impressed by its size and the quality of the exhibits. There is something for everyone. Men seem to like the toolshed, women like the 1890s living room and dry goods store and everyone likes the photo display and the one-room schoolhouse.

The museum is looking to add things to its collection and before they become nonexistent, they would like you to know they are looking for things most people throw out, according to the news release.

Some of the items would be photos, but we know that you may not want to lose a photo so the museum only asks that we be able to duplicate the photo. Keep in mind photos from the 1950s and 1960s are now 50 and 60 years old.

Other items the historical society is looking for are school, church and theater programs, programs for new building, family notations about a business owned by them, organization programs, documentation (Royal Neighbors, Odd Fellows, etc), house history, hospital bills from different decades, plat maps, history of any Grundy County town and anything you think is interesting and would add to the history of the area.

For information, call the Grundy County Historical Society Museum at 815-942-4880.
