Fresh off a historic spring for both boys and girls, the Minooka Indian Pride track and field meets will take place again this summer. There will be three meets in all. Two of them, June 17 and July 8, will be held at the Minooka Community High School Track Stadium and the third, July 21, will be held at Channahon Community Park.
Registration for these events are from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. the nights of the meet, with unlimited entries and the cost is $5 a competitor.
On June 17, there will be free clinics at 5:30 p.m. for shot put and hurdles. The field events start at 6 p.m., featuring long jump, high jump and shot put. The running events that evening begin at 6:30 and will include the 100-meter dash, the toddler 20-meter dash (ages 0-3), the mile run, the 100-meter low hurdles, the 55-meter mini hurdles (for ages 0-10), the 400-meter dash, the 55-meter dash (for ages 0-10) and the family 4x100-meter relay.
On July 8, the free clinic starting at 5:30 will involve the long jump. Field events (6 p.m. start) will be long jump, high jump and shot put, with the running events (6:30 p.m.) emcompassing the 100-meter dash, toddler 20-meter dash (ages 0-3), 800-meter run, 55-meter mini hurdles (ages 0-10), 200-meter dash, family 4x100-meter relay and mile run.
On July 21 at Channahon Community Park, the events will be run in the grass and through the trails of the park. Running events, starting at 6:30 p.m., will include the toddler 20-meter dash (ages 0-3), mile hay bale run, 200-meter hay bale dash, 55-meter hay bale dash, 3x1-mile hay bale relay and 3-mile hay bale run. Both 3-mile races will be run on the course used by the Minooka cross-country teams.
Awards will be given out for first through sixth place in each age group. Age groups are Men: 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-45, 46-64 and 65+. Women: 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-45, 46-64 and 65+. Co-ed: 0-6 and 7-10.
