COAL CITY – A Coal City man was killed Tuesday in an unforeseen accident while he and other construction crew members cleared trees. At about 11 a.m. Tuesday employees of D Construction of Coal City were clearing trees at a project site in a field south of Coal City and east of Broadway Street, Grundy County coroner John Callahan said Tuesday afternoon. Russell Bull, 50, was killed when a metal object came off the woodchipper being used at the site. The object flew through the air and struck Bull, according to a news release from Callahan's office. Russell was transported to the Morris Hospital by Coal City EMS and was pronounced dead upon arrival just before noon. The investigation is ongoing with Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the coroner’s office. An examination is set for early Wednesday.
