COAL CITY – The Will/Grundy Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Coal City Public Library, 85 N. Garfield, Coal City.
The featured speaker will be Mike Johnson, retired Illinois Department of Corrections officer. His topic, “Joliet Prisons,” will include describing the history of the Old Joliet Prison on Collins St. in Joliet, including the women’s prison. Many slides will be shown of the interior and exterior of the facilities taken throughout the history of the notorious prison. In addition, the prison industries, riots, murders and the prison’s role in pop culture, including “The Blues Brothers,” will be discussed.
The meeting is open to the public, free of charge and includes a brief business meeting and light refreshments.
