MORRIS – Grundy County real estate taxes are due Wednesday, July 2.
Payments may be mailed directly to the Grundy County Treasurer’s Office. Allow about five days before the due date to insure the payment is received by the due date, according to a news release from the treasurer’s office.
Payments also may be made at the various Grundy County banks listed on the reverse of the tax bill. Duplicate tax bills and tax payments may be accessed online at www.grundyco.org. Convenience fees are added for credit card or bank debit card use and there is an electronic check fee. If there is a late fee, it is noted on each stub.
The second installment is due Sept. 2. Unpaid real estate taxes, penalties and additional fees will be sold at the annual tax lien sale Nov. 12. Unpaid taxes are offered to tax buyers that have the lowest bid. The successful tax buyer pays the taxes, places a lien on the property, charges additional fees and the penalty bid at the tax sale. Property owners can redeem the taxes at the Grundy County Clerk’s Office, and the lien will be removed. If the taxes are not redeemed, the tax buyer can apply for a tax deed and could possibly own the property.
