HOUSTON, Texas – The American Chemistry Council named LyondellBasell a Responsible Care Company of the Year, in recognition of the company’s outstanding achievement in environmental, health, safety and security performance.

LyondellBasell is one of four companies that received the award.

“The American Chemistry Council is pleased to recognize LyondellBasell with its highest honor – the Responsible Care Company of the Year Award,” council president and chief executive officer Cal Dooley said in a news release. “Through its leadership and commitment to superior environmental performance and the health and safety of its workers and the community as a whole, LyondellBasell is leading our industry in building a safer, more sustainable future.”

To be eligible for the Responsible Care Company of the Year award, companies must demonstrate how they have surpassed performance criteria, including a safety performance rating in the top 10 percent of companies in their size category, with no significant process incidents in the previous year; positive performance measures in the areas of transportation safety, process safety and emissions reduction; and other recorded measures.

“We never forget the real reason LyondellBasell is a Responsible Care Company; it’s because we are protecting those who work in our plants and those who are our neighbors and customers. We take our Responsible Care commitment very personally,” LyondellBasell Chief Executive Officer Jim Gallogly said in the release. “We thank the [American Chemistry Council] for recognizing us as we pursue health and safety excellence.”
