With summer days upon us, getting outdoors can be a priority for people.

The Channahon and Minooka area offers plenty of opportunities to get some sun and have some outdoor fun.

Channahon State Park is the official trailhead for the Illinois and Michigan Canal State Trail, according to the Department of Natural Resources. The park is open for picnicking, camping, fishing and canoeing and has trail access.

According to the Department of Natural Resources, sixty-one miles of trail along the old canal towpath gives access to scenic and historic sites.

Lion’s Park, located on McEvilly Road, Minooka, was the first part built in Minooka. It features walking paths, picnic tables, a basketball court, playground equipment and a splash pad for those especially hot days.

For those looking to hit the green, consider the Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club, 24355 W. Bluff Road, Channahon. According to its website, the Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club has been one of the Chicago-area’s highest rated golf courses since it opened in 1993. It offers a challenge for the serious player and fun for the more casual players. The course offers four tee boxes that stretch the course from 5,000 to more than 7,100 yards.

The Channahon Park District also boasts a plethora of parks featuring everything from basketball courts, baseball and softball diamonds, disc golf, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, baggo courts, playgrounds and splash pads. Visit to find a list of facilities.

The Channahon Park District also offers plenty of special events this summer, including Art in the Park on July 19, a Party with Nutsie at Community Park on July 22 and a Movie in the Park at Central Park on July 30.

Channahon and Minooka are great communities filled with fun activities, abundant natural spaces and homespun charm. Find out more about living here from real estate expert, Michelle Carr, Broker, at Realty Executives Success.   Call 815.739.1339 or visit
