West: Democrats see 'unaccompanied alien minors' as a golden opportunity

Published: Wednesday, July 9, 2014 8:25 p.m. CDT

There is one thing we can predict about the tens of thousands of “minor aliens” crashing our southern border. If permitted to stay in this country and gain citizenship, at least 8 in 10 of them will grow up to be Big Government Democrats. They will likely believe that the U.S. government isn’t big enough and doesn’t offer enough taxpayer-funded services.

How do I know this? In late 2011, Pew Research’s Hispanic Center surveyed a “randomly selected, nationally representative sample” of 1,220 Hispanic adults.

Pew’s question zeroed in on Hispanic attitudes toward government: whether government should be bigger or smaller, with more services or fewer services. There was no mistaking the Hispanic preference. “Hispanics,” Pew wrote, “are more likely than the general public to say they would rather have a bigger government providing more services than a smaller government with fewer services.”

How much more likely? According to Pew, “Some 75 percent of Hispanics say this, while 19 percent say they would rather have a smaller government with fewer services.”

That’s three out of four Obamacare voters right there. No wonder the administration is happy to turn U.S. border agents into unaccompanied alien minor baby sitters, and boot troops from their Army base (as reported in Oklahoma) to make room for the new arrivals.

Well, here’s news. There will never be political will without elected leaders bold and principled enough to make that legal case politically. Meanwhile, time is a-wasting. The Obama-assisted incursions of tens of thousands of alien minors are not only an assault on U.S. sovereignty, they are an assault on our political system.

In other words, the federal bureaucracy isn’t just foisting blocs of alien dependents onto states and localities that cannot afford them. In effect, the federal bureaucracy is now, and has been for decades, importing government-dependent new voting blocs, a kind of alien proletariat to socialize the U.S. electorate further. This fits into the left’s long war to turn the USA into a socialist-style republic, where a permanently government-dependent class is administered by a permanently government-employed class, and everyone else has to pay for it.
